Dynix announced the latest release of Horizon on April 8. While it will not be available in general release until later this year, it will be shown at various conferences and user group meetings over the next few months. Much of the work done on the product since Horizon 7.4 was introduced has focused on the underlying technology, however, there have also been major changes in the look and feel of the staff and patron user interfaces. The base technology will now be Java for both end-user functionality and back-office functionality. An important aspect of Horizon 8.0 is the separation into two brands, Horizon for libraries of all types and Corinthian for academic and research libraries. While basically the same as Horizon, Corinthian will be packaged with a course reserves module and workflows that reflect academic and research library practices. Horizon will be packaged with a homebound services module. Corinthian will also provide open APIs that enable the software to easily integrate with the existing campus technology infrastructure. |
