Mike Rogers - InfoTech Published in: Library Journal, July 28, 2003 ![]() Possibly the biggest product announcement at recent American Library Association Annual Conference was made by Dynix, which debuted Horizon 7.3, the latest edition of its core system. Many of the new features were incorporated following feedback from librarians. According to the vendor, the new release adds more than 100 new features and is fully integrated with Horizon Information Portal 2.1 and Horizon Reciprocal Borrowing 1.0, which use the new NCIP standard. Combined, the elements supply a "fully synchronized library management system, interlibrary loan, and library portal solution." For acquisitions, the system can create order blanks and session defaults and librarians can search acquisitions records. Staff also can print acquisition work slips, duplicate user records, and group itemized block information into single summaries by barcode. Horizon 7.3 can now map call numbers from bibliographic records into newly created copy and item records. Dynix also has beefed up Horizon's capacity to analyze usage from a bibliographic record perspective. Bibliographic records also can be transferred. |
