Horizon Information Management System Electronic Resource Management (ERM) ![]() Electronic Resource Management is a new frontier for the library world. As academic and other resource-oriented libraries transition their collection spending from predominantly printed material to electronic journals and online databases, a number of major challenges have arisen. Today's ILS systems provide deep solutions for handling printed material, but have limited support to assist library staff to handle the requirements for managing electronic resources. As the move from paper to electronic journals and serials accelerates, so does the need for a powerful ERM solution. Dynix has much of the infrastructure in place today to support the future introduction of a powerful Electronic Resource Management module. Horizon Information Portal, Horizon Consolidated Searching, Remote Patron Authentication and Horizon Link Resolver make up a few of these foundation tools. Some modules, such as Horizon Acquisitions and Cataloging, will be enhanced to fully support electronic resources. While leveraging much of the work that has been done before, Dynix is going beyond ERM solutions available today. The future Dynix ERM solution will provide a powerful environment for completely managing all electronic resources—for a single library or for a consortium.
