Dynix and Utah Academic Library Consortium: The Forefront of Technology in Library Services

In 1997, the UALC partnered with Dynix for the purpose of furthering Utah's goal to move to the forefront of technology in library services. Using Horizon Academic Library Suite, UALC member libraries now provide more than 150,000 students with easy access to members' combined collection of information resources, which includes in excess of 8 million volumes.

"We want to make our libraries a kind of refuge for [students and faculty]," says Wayne Peay, Director of the Eccles Health Sciences Library at the University of Utah. "Their work is significant and providing these kinds of services and seamless integration is what we're aiming for."

The success of Horizon has not gone unnoticed. In 2000, UALC received national recognition from both the American Library Association and the Association of Library Trustees.
